Júlia Barata was born in 1981, in Coimbra.

She studied and practiced architecture until 2019, dedicating herself to plastic arts. She is an illustrator, having published several books in Portugal and Argentina. She participated in several group exhibitions and had her first individual show, Viveiro, in Lisbon.

Nomad lived between Maputo, Porto, Lisbon, Rotterdam and Barcelona. In 2013 she emigrated to Buenos Aires, where she currently resides.

In 2019, in partnership with Clara Lagos opens “Mesa” (@lamesainfinita, Buenos Aires), a physical gallery and learning space for drawing and illustration, where she curates exhibitions, coordinates courses and gives classes in Experimental and Clinical Graphic Narrative Graphic Design.

 

Member of the collective Chicks on Comics since 2019. Collaborated with Crisis (Arg), Kamandi (Arg), Don Julio (Arg), Wai Comics (Arg), Vamos las pibas (Arg), Brígida (Ch), and the publisher Douda Correria (PT).
