Ana Durães markes her 40-year artistic journey with this Lisbon exhibition.
Ana, like her works, are in perpetual motion, the landscapes and artist blends seamlessly, giving rise to novel shapes and hues— botanical palettes that spring forth, enchanting those in their presence.
Born in 1962 in Diamantina, Brazil, Ana Durães is a visual artist who has been residing in Rio de Janeiro for many years. Her artistic journey commenced at the Guignard School in Belo Horizonte in 1981, culminating in the completion of her studies at the Rio de Janeiro School of Fine Arts in 1987. Over the years, she has been a part of numerous group exhibitions and has showcased her work individually in various prestigious venues, including the Palácio das Artes in Belo Horizonte, the Museum of Fine Arts in Rio, the National Historical Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Salvador, MASP São Paulo, the School of Visual Arts/RJ, the Museum of the Republic/RJ, the Brazilian American Cultural Institute in Washington, and the Kunstlerhaus in Austria, as well as cities like Berlin, Paris, and Lisbon.
In 2012, Ana Durães marked her 30-year artistic journey with the solo exhibition "Mundo das Coisas" at the Espaço Furnas Cultural. In 2013, she presented the solo exhibition "Novos Pretos Novos" at the Sergio Gonçalves Galeria, addressing the historical persistence of keeping the black community in the shadows of social exclusion. In 2018, she held a solo exhibition at the Artfact Gallery on 84 Orchard Street in New York. In 2020, Ana curated the exhibition "Natureza Alterada" in collaboration with photographer Daniel Mattar at the Brisa Galeria in Lisbon. Her works can be found in various collections in Brazil and abroad.
In October 2022, Ana Durães, alongside four other artists—Luiz Dolino, Pavel, Rubens Ianelli, and Tarm—took part in the group exhibition "Paisagem Brasileira Contemporânea" organized by Contempo at the Casa de America in Madrid, Spain.
