[A]Space is accepting proposals to host two curated exhibitions at its gallery space in Lisbon in November 2024 and spring 2025.
We are thrilled to announce an open call for curators and artists to collaborate in an exhibition where creative freedom reigns. This is an opportunity to disrupt, provoke thought, and reimagine perspectives, inspiring meaningful dialogue that resonates beyond the gallery walls. Two exhibition proposals will be chosen for this transformative experience to be hosted at [A]Space in 2024–2025.
-
Applicants
We welcome curated exhibition applications from curators and artists-curators at any stage of their career, based anywhere in Europe, with a distinctive and ambitious artistic practice, regardless of media or educational background.
For logistical purposes, exhibition proposals should include at least 50% of artworks produced in Portugal. The remaining 50% can be created anywhere else in Europe.
-
Fees
[A]Space offers a fee of €1,000 per exhibition for the curator (or artist-curator) and artist(s) for the curation of the exhibition, and travel expenses to Lisbon of up to €600 based on receipts.
[A]Space will cover the cost of shipping the artworks to Portugal up to the total amount of €1,000 per exhibition, based on receipts. If, for any reason, an exhibition proposal requires a higher budget than offered, please specify the reason in your application, giving as much information as possible.
In the event of a sale during the exhibition, the gallery receives a commission of 30%, after deducting some standard exhibition costs. The remaining 70% goes to the artists and the curator, with the suggested split of 60% to the artist and 10% to the curator.
-
Location and characteristics of the gallery
We are delighted to open the door to our 118 m2 gallery with a 4-metre ceiling height located in Arco Escuro 6, Lisboa (Campo das Cebolas). Since 2019, it has hosted 10 exhibitions and 20 artists.
Applications should be tailored to the gallery space, considering that the maximum number of artists benefiting from the space at any given time is 4. All gallery floor plans and images can be found below. Please make sure you have reviewed these materials before applying.
