CONSTRUCTED LANDSCAPE
Exhibition by Ana Durães and Luiz Dolino
December 8, 2023

The exhibition CONSTRUCTED LANDSCAPE marks the convergence of two artists in Lisbon who have engaged in a constant dialogue in recent times, with joint exhibitions in Madrid, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and now Lisbon.
In the realm of creative expression, Ana Durães, hailing from Diamantina, Minas Gerais, and Luiz Dolino, a native of Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, are both artists with well-established and well-traveled careers. Their journeys, the transitions, and the diverse perspectives they encounter have led them to transform the concept of landscape into a graphic diary of memories—a mental notebook filled with a palette of colors and shapes.
Luiz has consistently exhibited his work in museums and galleries both in Brazil and abroad, showcasing his art for more than half a century in over 40 countries.
Ana frequently crosses the Atlantic, immersing herself in the vibrant energy of Lisbon for roughly half of the year, while the other half unfolds amidst the dynamic landscapes of Rio, Minas Gerais, and Petropolis.
In perpetual motion, the landscapes and artists blend seamlessly, giving rise to novel shapes and hues— botanical palettes that spring forth, enchanting those in their presence. These landscapes emerge spontaneously, weaving between rivers and avenues, mountains and museums, oceans and cafes.
Luiz embraced geometric expression from an early age. It through this that he builds, communicates, points, underlines and reflects. His method of painting, geometric in form and which we can link to the Concrete Art Movement, starts from other reflections, mathematical, musical and poetic, and so, materializing into planes of color and form in the studio. The dot becomes a line, a landscape, a poem and a movie. It becomes painting. For her part, Ana works immersed in nature, conversing with plants, embraced by animals, possessing the singular ability to summon birds that come to feed from her hand. She paints as she breathes. Her palette mirrors the hues of the surrounding nature. The art she creates emanates from within, from the point where everything is born, where streams and trees come into existence. The same origin, the same source. Ana and Luiz, a narrative woven from pathways—some dusty and uneven, others secure and cosmopolitan.
This exhibition, in Lisbon, Portugal, at the end of 2023, marks yet another brief interlude on this shared journey.
